Did drunk driving contribute to a recent head-on collision?

Impaired drivers threaten the lives of everyone else with whom they share the roads. Data shows that drunk driving takes the lives of thousands of innocent people each year and injures thousands more. Louisiana law enforcement agencies do what they can to keep these drivers off the roads, but they are unable to stop all of these easily preventable accidents from occurring.

For example, a recent crash that involved two vehicles and eight people may have been due to impairment. At some point, the driver suspected of being impaired and of causing the accident crashed head-on into another vehicle. The evidence indicates that driver's vehicle was in the opposing lane of travel at the time. That driver was last listed as being in critical condition at an area hospital.

The driver of the other vehicle did not fare as well. That 42-year-old driver died from the injuries suffered in the impact. Others suffered injuries as well, including one person who was still hospitalized at last report.

Louisiana officials are awaiting the results of toxicology tests to determine whether the suspicion of impairment was correct. The surviving driver faces criminal charges already, but additional charges could be filed based on those test results. It could take some time to know all of the results of the investigation.

In the meantime, the family that lost a loved one and all of those involved in this apparent drunk driving accident must find a way back to some sort of normalcy. This might entail determining whether legal actions in a Louisiana civil court are appropriate. This will more than likely require the assistance and advice of an attorney who routinely handles these types of matters.
