Louisiana woman's shoes cause her to face drug charges

People say that possession is nine-tenths of the law, but does that extend the soles of your shoes? An agent with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries initiated a traffic stop based on what was reported as erratic movements of a vehicle. The woman driving was placed under arrest for driving under the influence, but by the time she was booked into the local jail, she was facing drug charges as well.

As the agent traveled on Highway 139, he reportedly witnessed a vehicle swerving through traffic and nearly hitting numerous mailboxes. He stopped the vehicle and claims the Louisiana woman had difficulty maintaining her balance, spoke quickly and was jerking her limbs. Field sobriety tests were performed, which the agent says she failed. Reports claim she also did poorly on a drug evaluation, and a blood alcohol test came back negative.

A search of her vehicle allegedly revealed the presence of some pills. As she was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center, a substance preliminarily identified as a methamphetamine rock was found in the sole of her shoe. She faces several charges including possession of methamphetamine and introducing contraband into a penal facility.

The penalties associated with each of the charges she faces could be severe, and legal representation is essential. Prosecutors could have a difficult time proving the drug charges relating to the substance found under her shoe since proving that she even knew what was in the sole of her shoe could be problematic. Her criminal defense team will undoubtedly review this particular evidence closely, along with everything else prosecutors intend to offer as evidence in court.
